Former ambassador Armando Benedetti went to the Supreme Court of Justice to investigate the case against him for alleged corruption in the Financial Fund for Development Projects (Fonade). Before entering, he explained that it was health reasons that led him to request the postponement of the hearing last Friday.
“On Saturday I had a cancerous polyp removed. For that reason I asked Judge Lombana to postpone the procedure and she did so from Friday to Monday, when I am still convalescing,” former senator Benedetti also explained to the media.

The fact is that the investigation was scheduled for last Friday, however, the former official requested a postponement and it was granted for the morning of this Monday, October 30. Benedetti assured that he has not recovered and that the magistrate handling the case hates him.
“I asked Judge Cristina Lombana to give me a period of at least 72 hours and she did not want to do so. The doctor told me that I had to lie down for three or four days and I haven’t even been there for two and I’m standing here,” Benedetti added.

The reason for the diligence in the Supreme Court of Justice has to do with the process of possible influence peddling and undue interest in the execution of contracts at Fonade. Benedetti is being investigated for committing the possible crimes of money laundering and illicit enrichment.

The former ambassador to Venezuela assured that the judge in the case has “a furious delirium” towards him.
“She has a furious delirium for persecuting me, stealing my guarantees, she has threatened to change my lawyer. I really don’t know what to do with that furious, frantic and even crazy delirium that she has with me. She is already sued and she is challenged, I don’t know what she is doing there, she seems perverse to me,” Benedetti pointed out about Judge Lombana.
The investigation against Benedetti began in 2020, that year his asset information was consolidated and the investigations showed that 2,919 million pesos were found that were not duly justified.
