The department of Cauca was today the scene of a violent dawn, after harassment attributed to FARC dissidents against the public force in four towns in that area of the country.
Almost simultaneously, the members of this illegal armed organization attacked the Police stations and substations of the municipality of Suárez and the townships of El Carmelo, Cajibío; Mondomo, Santander de Quilichao and Timba in Buenos Aires. An ambush against the Army was also recorded in this last town.
It was reported that an older adult died after being hit by a stray bullet in the middle of the fighting, while two other civilians, including a minor, were injured.
The deceased victim, according to the community, was trying to collect one of the subsidies from the social programs established by the government.
Meanwhile, fighting was reported in the urban area of Suárez, as well as in El Carmelo, Cajibío. The first were attacks on the police, later confrontations with the Army were reported.
“Suárez is paralyzed because the guerrilla group is deployed in both rural and urban areas, in fact, in sectors like La Betulia there is a confrontation with the military, who seek to counteract the rebels, as shown in the videos that are already circulating in the social networks,” denounced social leaders of that municipality.
Added to all of the above was that another group of dissidents ambushed an Army unit that was moving through the San Francisco sector, a rural area of Buenos Aires.
The soldiers were attacked with explosives, according to the version given by Brigadier General Federico Mejía, commander of the Cauca Specific Command.
“The attack happened the night before, at 11:45 at night, in Vereda San Francisco, Timba district, Buenos Aires, in this situation seven of our soldiers were injured,” explained the officer, who coordinates the actions to counteract the advance of FARC dissidents in the western mountain range.
