An 11-year-old girl and a 34-year-old woman were stabbed during an attack in Leicester Square in the centre of the British capital.

The attacker was detained at the scene and taken into custody, according to a statement from London police on the social network X, Day.Az reports.

There is no information about his identity yet.

Police believe there are no other unidentified suspects in connection with the incident.

Paramedics said the two victims were taken to a major trauma center. Their conditions were not immediately available.

It is reported that eyewitnesses – passers-by and employees of nearby stores – were able to neutralize the attacker.

Leicester Square is located in the heart of London’s bustling Soho district, home to a large number of cinemas, shops, bars and other entertainment venues, and serves as a centre of attraction for a huge number of tourists.

The attack came amid protests that have turned into riots across Britain following a gun attack on a dance class in Southport that left three girls dead and eight other children and two adults stabbed.

Earlier it was reported that the UK government was looking into the role of other countries in spreading disinformation online that could help fuel protests in the country.
