Armed forces rescued 9,500 flood victims in 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, various units and contingents of the Bangladesh Armed Forces have rescued around 9,500 flood-affected people through 55 boats and helicopters from the flood-affected districts. They have been sent to different shelters.

This information was informed in a press release sent by the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday (August 24).

According to ISPR, various units and contingents of the Bangladesh Armed Forces are working tirelessly to rescue flood victims in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Comilla, Feni, Chittagong and Khagrachari due to the deterioration of the flood situation in the northeastern and southeastern regions of Bangladesh.

In the last 24 hours, the rescued people from the flood affected areas have been sent to various shelters. Besides, relief and food items have been distributed among about 5,000 flood affected people.

Apart from this, a significant number of medical teams of the armed forces have been deployed to provide medical assistance to the flood-affected districts.

ISPR also informed that besides providing medical services to the flood affected areas, pregnant Moshammat Sumi Begum was rescued from Phulgazi police station in Feni on August 23 and she gave birth to a son when she was sent to Comilla CMH in an unconscious state by an army helicopter.

Apart from this, the amount of one day’s salary of the members of the armed forces is being deposited in the relief fund of the chief adviser in cooperation with the flood victims, and the emergency relief collection activities are also being conducted by the members of the armed forces under their own management.

The ISPR also said that on August 23, the Army and Air Force chiefs and the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Department inspected the flood-hit areas by helicopter. During this time, the members of the armed forces engaged in the rescue work were given necessary instructions.
