Nineteen members of the Traveler community were taken into police custody this Sunday evening for participating in an armed gathering. They are part of around fifty people, from the same community, who tried to attack the SpeedPark, a leisure area in the Eden shopping center, bringing together bowling, karting and even video game arcade machines, Servon. But the police, with numerous reinforcements particularly from Val-de-Marne, prevented what looked like reprisals.

In fact, the day before, this Saturday evening, some of these travelers were turned away from the leisure area because they had tried to enter with their own bottles of alcohol. A fight then broke out between them and the SpeedPark security guards. “They did not want to respect the internal regulations,” explains an employee of the premises.

The establishment was therefore closed around 11:30 p.m., much earlier than expected. While it is on Saturday evening that it experiences its peak weekly attendance, with several hundred customers in the evening. Same thing this Sunday, with closing around 8 p.m. and as many consequences on turnover.

Nine extended twenty-four hour police custody

This Sunday afternoon, SpeedPark employees spotted videos from the day before circulating on social networks and smelled retaliation. They therefore warned the police of this possibility and they obviously did the right thing.

According to Valérie Wetmuller, the director of the shopping center since January 2020, everything was brought under control by the police. “Everything has been put in place to secure the shopping center, the customers and the SpeedPark,” she appreciates. Like the employee of the leisure space, she advocates appeasement. “The center is recognized by clients as a safe and pleasant place. And we work to maintain it,” she adds.

The SpeedPark was to reopen its doors this Monday, at 6 p.m. “We want everything to calm down as quickly as possible,” we stress on the spot. We are a family place and we want to remain so. » This Monday evening, ten of those held in police custody were released. For the other nine, their police custody was extended by 24 hours.
