Man Arrested Twice for Attempting to See Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers

A man was arrested twice in one day after attempting to see Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers at the state Capitol, according to the Wisconsin Department of Administration. The man first approached the security desk outside the governor’s office on Wednesday afternoon, wearing no shirt, and carrying a holstered handgun and a leashed dog. He stated that he would not leave until he saw the governor. Capitol police officers took him into custody without incident and charged him with openly carrying a firearm in the Capitol, which is illegal.

After posting bail, the man returned to the Capitol later that night, this time armed with a loaded AK-47 style rifle. Again, he requested to see the governor. Police officers initiated a dialogue with the man and conducted a search of his backpack, where they found a collapsible police-style baton, which is illegal without a valid concealed carry permit.

Due to a concerning statement made by the man, officers took him into custody for psychiatric evaluation. The rifle was seized by Capitol Police. The governor’s office declined to comment on matters of the governor’s security.

Governor Evers assured reporters that he was doing okay and praised the work of the various police departments involved. When asked about enhancing security policies at the Capitol, the governor indicated that it would likely be considered. However, he declined to discuss security matters in detail.

The incidents involving the arrest of this individual highlight the importance of ensuring the safety and security of government officials and their workplaces. It also raises questions about the effectiveness of existing security measures and the need for potential enhancements to protect against similar incidents in the future.
