Five People Robbed at Gunpoint on Chicago’s North Side

A group of thieves robbed five people at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon on Chicago’s North Side, according to police. The robberies took place in broad daylight on Goose Island.

One employee at a wholesale restaurant supply store reported that at least two victims, including his coworker and a customer, were robbed in the store’s parking lot. The employee, Eddie Pickens, who works at the Restaurant Depot off Division Street, described the harrowing incident.

“He was out here, helping a customer, putting groceries in the car, and three masked men came out of nowhere, and at gunpoint, robbed them,” Pickens said of his coworker.

According to police, the robberies occurred in the 1000 block of West Division Street just after 2 p.m. Pickens noted that the incident took place about an hour before the store’s closing time.

“It was broad open in the daylight, and the customers were all out,” Pickens said, emphasizing the brazen nature of the crime.

The robbers, described as four individuals, got out of a dark-colored SUV and brandished guns while demanding the victims’ property. They then fled the scene in the SUV.

Pickens disclosed that the robbers made off with his coworker’s wallet and the customer’s belongings. “He was shook up, shook up pretty bad,” Pickens said of his coworker’s state after the incident.

Chicago Police Department (CPD) stated that three male victims and two female victims were robbed, though their ages were not immediately known. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and no suspects are currently in custody. Area Three detectives are now leading the investigation.

The CPD encourages anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The community is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
