Messages spread on social networks about the detention of an allegedly “Azerbaijani saboteur” in the center of Yerevan do not correspond to reality.
As Day.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media, the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia Narek Sargsyan said that on April 8 at about 23.25 police officers detained a foreigner on suspicion of possession and use of drugs. The arrest took place at the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Amiryan Street in the small center of Yerevan. After transporting the suspect to the Kentron district police station, it turned out that the detainee was a citizen of the Russian Federation.
“No drugs were found on him. It was established that he was in the Republic of Armenia for tourism purposes. He was released from custody,” the agency’s interlocutor informed.
Earlier, a video was distributed in one of the Telegram channels, the author of which claimed that the man detained in the center of Yerevan was an “Azerbaijani saboteur.”
