The Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan has launched an investigation into the fact of the appropriation of the famous Azerbaijani song “Karabakh” by composer Bahram Nasibov by Armenian performer Gor Yepremyan. The song was published on YouTube under the title “Sirun jan”.

As reported by Day.Az, the agency’s experts, People’s Artists of Azerbaijan, composers Faig Sujaddinov and Eldar Mansurov immediately responded to another case of Armenian plagiarism. Their analysis showed that “Sirun jan” completely coincides with Nasibov’s work “Karabakh”, written in the mode “chahargah”.

The history of the song “Karabakh” goes back to 1972, when it was first performed by Arif Babayev. The music and lyrics belong to Bahram Nasibov, and the song was officially registered on June 2, 1972, at the Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan.

In 2009, the song “Karabakh” was included in the album “Traces of Wars in the Music of the Turkic World”, initiated by the Turkish TV channel TRT. In this album, the song was performed by Ali Haydar Gul.

Many famous Azerbaijani performers, such as Aygun Beylar, Aygun Kazimova, Konul Khasyeva, Brilliant Dadashova and Mansum Ibrahimov, have repeatedly performed this song on television, radio and during foreign tours.

The actions of the Armenian performer Gor Yepremyan, who appropriated the song “Karabakh” and changed its name to “Sirun jan”, violate not only the personal rights of Bahram Nasibov, but also his property rights, given the commercial placement of the song on YouTube.

The Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan emphasizes that this case is another example of long-standing Armenian literary and musical theft. The Agency continues to fight against such cases of appropriation of Azerbaijani cultural heritage, conducting thorough investigations and providing irrefutable evidence of the ownership of these works by the Azerbaijani people.
