In Sudan, the military has agreed to hand over power to Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdo.

The agreement was reached after talks between the military and political leaders.

Officials said:

In Sudan, there have been intense protests across the country since the military overthrew the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and seized power.

The military and political parties, including Sudan’s largest party, the Ummah, have been involved in talks to end the protests.

An agreement was reached between the two sides at the end of those talks. Under the agreement, the military agreed to return power to Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdo.

The army also agreed to release all political leaders and officials arrested after the coup.

The UN was involved in the signing of the agreement. The organization and the United States played a key role.

After taking office again, Hamdok will head an independent cabinet.

The military has set up a new Sovereign Council to tighten its grip on power.

Officials said the council would meet to discuss the deal before it is officially announced.

A statement from the Sudanese Scholars’ Association, a coalition of political leaders and celebrities opposed to the coup, said that Abdullah Hamdo had been re-elected and would form a new cabinet. The movement said it would sign an agreement with the military after a related political declaration.

Omar al-Bashi, who has ruled Sudan since 1989, was ousted by the military in 2019. A sovereign council was then formed with representatives of the military and political leaders, and an interim government was formed. Abdallah Hamdock will be the new Prime Minister.

In this case, the government dissolved the government on the 25th of last month. In addition, a state of emergency was declared in the country.

Intense protests are taking place across the country in protest of the coup. The Sudanese Medical Association said on Saturday that 40 people had been killed in a shootout with security forces to quell the protests.

In this context, the military has now agreed to hand over power to Abdallah Hamdo.
