BENGALURU: Union Minister Bipin Rawat today thanked locals for coming to the rescue of Army personnel in a helicopter crash that killed 13 soldiers, including Bipin Rawat. Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted to thank the locals.
A big salute to all who rushed to the rescue of the crashed helicopter. “Thanks to everyone who tried to save the heroes who left us despite the great danger,” he wrote on Twitter.
The helicopter crash that rocked the country was in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Thirteen people, including Joint Chiefs of Staff Bipin Rawat, were killed in the incident. The Air Force has confirmed the death of the army chief. Bipin Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat also died in the accident. All but one of the 14 people on board the helicopter succumbed to their injuries. Group captain Varun Singh is the only survivor of the accident. He is being treated at Wellington Military Hospital.
