The investigation, which culminated in a simultaneous operation in three departments, has revealed how the illegal armed group, which operates mainly in the Magdalena Medio region, used the leaked information to plan and carry out attacks against the Public Force in Bucaramanga (Santander) and the Catatumbo region (Norte de Santander). This region covers nearly 20,000 square kilometers, including rural areas in the departments of Caldas, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Santander, Bolívar, Cesar and Antioquia.
Sergeant Edwar Egidio Garzón Lozano, who worked in the Counter Intelligence Battalion #2 of the National Army in Barrancabermeja (Santander), allegedly used his position to transmit crucial information about troop movements. This information was used by the 33rd and 37th fronts of the FARC dissidents to carry out terrorist attacks.
The Attorney General’s Office, which has been leading the investigation, highlighted the seriousness of the actions of those involved, since the leak of information to criminal groups puts the security and stability of the affected regions at risk.
