The event is part of the celebrations of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, bringing together more than two thousand volunteers, including young people and teenagers.

Speaking to the press, Refriango’s Marketing Administrator, Tânia Jardim, made it known that in addition to collecting solid waste, the initiative also aimed to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of preserving the environment and marine biodiversity.

On the other hand, the President of the Nação Verde Association, Nuno Cruz, believes that it is essential to make the population aware of matters about the risks and harmful consequences of pollution of marine biodiversity.

Nuno Cruz advises against leaving trash anywhere, especially on public roads.

The environmentalist explained that the garbage that is often left adrift runs into the sea, putting our health and that of fish, in particular, at risk.

“It is estimated that by 2050 we will have more plastic in the sea than fish, which is why we must avoid these types of practices”, he appealed.

In the opinion of the Deputy Administrator for the Technical Area of the Urban District of Samba, the act encouraged citizens, especially young people and teenagers, to take part in this type of initiatives.

According to the person responsible, environmental education must begin within the family and must be complemented by other institutions, such as churches and schools.

The action brought together public and private companies, educational institutions, churches as well as non-profit associations and civil society members.

This year, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, marked on September 16, emphasized the recovery and reduction of climate change.
