Around 34% turnout in local elections in Montenegro

The local elections in Montenegro are proceeding without problems, the Montenegrin police reported, quoted by the MINA agency.

According to data from the Center for Democratic Transition, by 3 p.m. today, 50,792 citizens had voted in the local elections in Podgorica, which is about 34 percent of the voters in the Montenegrin capital, reports MINA.

In the local elections in 2022, 46.6 percent of the voters had voted by this time, the agency recalls.

In Podgorica, 145,724 citizens have the right to vote, who can exercise it in 212 polling stations. 13 lists participate in the elections.

The early vote for a local parliament in Podgorica was reached after a split in the ruling Europe Now Movement (DES).

Podgorica is home to a third of the population of Montenegro, which numbers around 620,000 people. The local parliament has 58 members, and the majority in it proposes a candidate for mayor of Podgorica.

Local elections are also held today in the city of Kotor. By 3:00 p.m. (local time), 6,290 voters had voted, which is about 34 percent, according to data from the Municipal Election Commission, cited by the MINA agency.

12 lists participate in the elections in Kotor, and 18,498 citizens have the right to vote.

Polling stations will close at 20:00 local time.
