Basil Joseph says arranged marriage is wrong. Basil said that most of the arranged marriages are adjustments and if he has a child, he would say it would be a love marriage. In an interview with Popper Stop Malayalam, Basil talked about the disadvantages of arranged marriage.
”Arranged marriage is a lottery for many. I always give importance to love marriage. If I had a child I would say find someone. Why should we impose our desires on our children?
If we go tomorrow and find someone and this is my dream, why do I say that I dreamed of my daughter getting married to someone like this? There is no need for such drama. Let the kids figure it out because it’s their life. Let them live by marrying whomever they want.
Arranged marriages work because 50 or so are good people. The rest is adjustment because there is no other way. If you go back home, your family will send you back. ‘What will the locals say if you bring him here? If you come and stay here, will anyone marry you, do we want to look after you’ this will be the reaction of the family. Everyone says just be patient and adjust.
But there are those who live well. That is what we call lottery. I understand that arranged marriage is a wrong format.
