Arrest of a gang for forging residencies for expatriate workers

The Criminal Investigation Department was able to arrest a Sudanese gang led by a Libyan, who specialize in falsifying official Libyan procedures for the Sudanese community.

The Criminal Investigation Department said in a statement: “The head of the Passports and Nationality Authority branch in Benghazi referred a person of Sudanese nationality to the Criminal Investigation Department because he had applied for a final exit visa and it became clear that his procedures did not bear the stamp of transfer of legitimacy, in addition to the fact that the finance and residency stamp was incorrect and the residency sticker was a scanner.”

The statement added: “Immediately, the investigators of the Anti-Forgery and Counterfeiting Department of the Criminal Investigation Department began investigating the referred person, and they considered that the procedures he submitted were forged. He also confessed to the person who forged those procedures for him, who is another Sudanese person, and the investigation members were able to arrest him. During the investigation of the second Sudanese, he confessed to two other people who are also of Sudanese nationality, and they were also arrested.”

He said: “By expanding the investigations with those arrested, it became clear that they were working with a Libyan person who falsified official Libyan procedures for them in exchange for a sum of money estimated at “750” Libyan dinars, of which they, the “Sudanese,” received a portion (150) dinars in exchange for bringing people who wanted to falsify any procedure from the Sudanese community in the city of Benghazi.”

The statement continued: “Upon arresting the Libyan, who was recognized, and during interrogation, he confessed to carrying out forgery operations in exchange for money. He also confessed that he uses fake official Libyan seals that he obtained from a person in the city of Zawiya in exchange for a sum of money amounting to “1,500” dinars. Accordingly, all of those seals were seized and attached to the report that was prepared, as well as preparing a report on illegal immigration for the arrested Sudanese, and referring them all to the Public Prosecution.”
