Gross Theft in Stockholm Leads to Arrest and Closure of 6-Year-Old Sexual Crime Case

Stockholm County Police have made a major breakthrough in a 6-year-old sexual crime case after arresting six individuals suspected of a gross theft against a company in Stockholm. The arrest of one of the suspects, a 21-year-old man, led to the discovery that his DNA matched traces from a violent assault rape that occurred in Järfälla in 2017.

The incident in 2017 involved a 13-year-old girl who was attacked while walking along a lighted running track in a forest. The girl was on the phone with a friend when she was assaulted by a teenage boy. Despite her efforts to break free, she was beaten, dragged into the forest, and subjected to violence and gross sexual violence. The girl managed to escape and was later treated in the hospital.

At the time, despite extensive forensic investigations, interviews with witnesses, and other investigative measures, the identity of the perpetrator remained unknown, and the case was ultimately closed. However, the recent arrest of the 21-year-old man for the gross theft in Stockholm prompted a reexamination of the case. The analysis of his DNA confirmed a match to the traces collected during the assault rape in Järfälla.

Following the reopening of the case, the man was arrested for aggravated rape of a child. In a trial held at Attunda district court, he was sentenced to one year and one month in prison, deportation from Sweden, and a ban on returning for 15 years. Additionally, he was ordered to pay damages amounting to SEK 282,000. The court considered the fact that the man was 15 years old at the time of the crime and had previously been sentenced to five months in prison for the theft in Värmdö.

Gustaf Silfverstolpe, acting section head for serious crimes in Stockholm North, emphasized the significance of the sentence in providing closure for the victim and her family after a long and difficult period.

The successful resolution of this 6-year-old sexual crime case highlights the importance of ongoing investigations and the utilization of advanced forensic technology. The Stockholm County Police continue to prioritize the safety and justice of their community, working tirelessly to bring closure to victims of such heinous crimes.
