21-Year-Old Swede Arrested in Greece for Involvement in Stockholm Bombings

A 21-year-old Swedish man has been arrested and detained in Korydallos Prison in Athens, Greece, following his arrest at Athens International Airport in July. The Greek police apprehended him while he was on his way to Istanbul, according to reports from Greek media.

The Swedish authorities had been seeking his arrest internationally in connection with a series of bombings that occurred during a wave of violence in Stockholm between December of last year and January of this year. The man, who has not been named, is believed to be connected to the gang leader known as the “Kurdish Fox,” which was involved in a conflict with rival criminal networks.

The arrest is linked to an explosion that occurred in Enskededalen, Stockholm, on December 26, 2022. According to prosecutors, the suspect threw a bomb containing explosives and nails into a residential building, targeting a member of the so-called Dalennävterket. The incident is considered one of the early acts in the wave of violence, although the target is not formally suspected of involvement in the murder of “Einár.”

The arrest warrant issued by the Swedish prosecutor states, “On December 26, 2022, [the suspect] together and in agreement with another caused an explosion by throwing a container with explosives and nails into a residential building in Enskededalen.” The warrant also reveals that the suspect planned the crime and gave instructions to other individuals, with communication taking place via an encrypted messaging service.

The Swedish man is also suspected of involvement in a grenade attack against the same address the following day. It is alleged that another person threw a hand grenade into the gate, causing extensive damage. Similar to the previous incident, communication between the suspect and others involved was conducted through an encrypted service.

Furthermore, the 21-year-old is suspected of being connected to an explosion targeting a gate in Farsta, Stockholm, on December 31, 2022. The blast resulted in significant damage to the house, and the address is linked to a man previously known to the police who is under investigation in relation to the kidnapping and murder of “Einár.”

The Stockholm region experienced a total of 55 shootings and explosions between December 25 and March 27. A staggering 452 people were detained during this period, reflecting the severity of gang conflicts in the area. The most intense clash occurred between the leaders of two rival gangs: the “Kurdish Fox” and “The Greek.” Both gang leaders are believed to be currently residing abroad, with the “Kurdish Fox” reportedly in Turkey.

The initial roots of the conflict can be traced back to a power struggle over the drug market in Sundsvall between the “Räven’s” network and the Dalen network led by “Greken.”

As investigations continue, authorities hope that the arrest of the 21-year-old in Greece will bring them closer to unraveling the complexities of the wave of violence and providing justice to the victims and their families.
