Arrests Made in Connection with Explosion at Residential Area in Stockholm
Stockholm, Sweden – The police have made arrests following an explosion that occurred at a residential area in Enskededalen, southern Stockholm. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a man and a woman have been apprehended in relation to the incident.
The police had earlier announced the arrest of a person suspected of involvement in the explosion but did not provide details of when, where, or how the arrest took place. They have also confirmed that they are still searching for additional perpetrators.
Residents in the child-heavy residential area were awakened by the loud bang at 5.40am. The explosion caused significant damage to the building, with the door and window pane shattered, and the balcony scorched. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A woman who lives next door to the affected apartment witnessed the incident and immediately called the police. Expressing her fear for the safety of her children, she refrained from sharing her name. She stated, “Maybe it’s time to move. But where? There are things happening everywhere in Stockholm.”
The police have cordoned off the area, and several residents are observing their work from their balconies. Ruth Kamau, a 37-year-old resident who recently moved to Enskededalen, expressed her concern for the children in the area. She questioned her decision to relocate and contemplated moving again for the sake of her family’s safety.
The police spokesperson, Daniel Wikdahl, confirmed that no injured individuals were found inside the apartment. When asked about possible connections to criminal networks, Wikdahl stated that it is too early to determine, but the current incident is being investigated as part of the ongoing wave of serious violent crimes.
The housing company, Svenska Bostäder, is providing support to tenants and ensuring their security. Ida Strutt, the communications manager, stated, “The violence going on in the Stockholm area right now is terrible. It affects everyone. And everyone must work together to increase security.”
This incident marks the fourth explosion to occur in properties owned by Svenska Bostäder in Stockholm within a year. The police are continuing their investigations, following up on witness statements and conducting door-to-door inquiries. The incident is currently classified as gross public destruction and a gross violation of the Flammable and Explosive Goods Act.
