Arsenal Break Premier League Transfer Record with £105m Signing of Declan Rice from West Ham

London-based football club Arsenal has confirmed the signing of midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham in a record-breaking £105 million deal. The transfer fee surpasses the previous Premier League record for a British player.

The news comes after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs, with both parties finally settling on a transfer fee of £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons back in June. The Athletic had reported earlier this month that Rice had been given permission to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms.

Rice, who has signed a five-year deal with Arsenal until 2028, expressed his excitement about joining the club. He spoke highly of Arsenal’s trajectory and the style of play implemented by manager Mikel Arteta.

“In football, amazing opportunities arise. Big clubs, like Arsenal, have come for me and it’s really hard to turn down,” Rice said. “I really believe in what Mikel is building here and the squad he’s building. I’m really looking forward to the future with Arsenal.”

Rice is set to join the Arsenal team on their pre-season U.S. tour, flying out to the United States on Sunday. He will continue to wear the No 41 shirt that he previously donned at West Ham.

Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight at Rice joining the club, praising his talent and experience in the Premier League. Arteta sees Rice as a crucial addition to the squad, noting his leadership qualities and recent success in lifting a European trophy.

Manchester City had initially been in the race to sign Rice but withdrew after Arsenal submitted an improved bid. Rice’s departure from West Ham was confirmed by the club earlier on Saturday, although they did not mention his move to Arsenal.

The signing of Rice is seen as a significant move for Arsenal, as the club aims to strengthen its squad and compete at the highest level. The midfielder’s arrival signals Arsenal’s commitment to their long-term plan and ambition under manager Mikel Arteta.
