Arsenal Midfielder Declan Rice Avoids Serious Injury, Continues To Be Assessed
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been fortunate to avoid a serious injury after being forced off during Sunday’s match. The 24-year-old England international was withdrawn at half-time in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur due to discomfort in his back.
Rice, who recently made a £105 million move from West Ham United to Arsenal, had played almost every minute of the season until this point. However, he requested to be substituted at the break, leading to concerns about his well-being.
Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provided an update on Rice’s condition. “He had some discomfort in his back. We have to assess him. It’s strange when a player like him asks to come off because he’s uncomfortable. Hopefully, it’s not a long-term issue,” said Arteta.
Tests have since confirmed that while Rice is still experiencing discomfort, the injury is not serious. The midfielder will continue to be assessed and treated in the coming days to monitor his progress.
In addition to Rice, Arsenal also had a few other players dealing with injuries. Leandro Trossard missed the north London derby due to a minor muscle issue and will undergo further tests. However, he is expected to be in contention for the upcoming matches.
Gabriel Martinelli, who sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Everton, is still undergoing treatment. Bukayo Saka experienced a knock to his foot against Spurs, but it is not believed to be serious. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey remains sidelined with a groin injury but is progressing well in his recovery.
On a more unfortunate note, Jurrien Timber, another summer signing for Arsenal, is set to remain out of action for an extended period. Timber suffered a serious knee injury during the opening game of the season.
Despite the injury concerns, Arsenal currently sits in fifth place in the Premier League table. The team’s next matches include a Carabao Cup fixture against Brentford on Wednesday, followed by a Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday.
