Art that Heals: University Course Underway

by time news

The fourth edition of the university course in Culture and Health will be held at the East campus of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), from October 7 to December 2.

Focused this year on the visual arts, the course will allow students to understand the effectiveness of art as a resource for cognitive abilities and for managing anxiety and stress. A series of thematic meetings will guide students to explore the connection between health, well-being and the various declinations of the visual arts. Focus, therefore, on the exposition of “new theories and perspectives on the relationship between these two apparently distant, but profoundly linked, fields”, says the deputy mayor of Lugano Roberto Badaraccoquoted in a statement released today, Friday.

The path will be marked by the exposition of innovative studies, techniques and methods. John Pedrazzinidean of the USI faculty of biomedical sciences, underlines the need to guarantee “a well-rounded education for the new generations of doctors”, to combine more advanced medical knowledge and techniques “with transversal skills capable of enhancing the relational and human aspects of the profession”.

Among the most anticipated moments, a debate is also scheduled between the neurobiologist Semir Zekyuniversity professor at London and Berkeley, and artist David Tremlettknown throughout the world for his wall drawing interventions in hospitals, churches, civil or residential buildings.
