Thus, the House of Artificial Intelligence (MIA) appears to be the most eloquent example of this dynamic capable of sowing the seeds of creativity and innovation, and allowing students to open up more to new horizons. , certainly promising.
Inaugurated in July 2022 at the UMP Knowledge Campus, the Oujda AI House is intended to be a structure and a space for meeting and sharing between different stakeholders to explore the opportunities offered by AI and attract innovative companies in this field.
The only franchise in Africa of the MIA des Alpes Maritimes (France), this new structure aims to instill a new dynamic that stimulates human intelligence, particularly in the Oriental region.
In addition to the MIA, other projects, such as the African Institute of Artificial Intelligence (Oujda) and the National School of Digital Engineering, AI and Robotics (Berkane), make up the UMP a pioneer in this field, capable of rising to the very top ranks of intelligent universities.
So, it is no coincidence that the UMP of Oujda received, last year, the prize for the best university in Africa in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), during the Festival Cannes AI World Cup (WAIFC) (February 9-11, 2023).
“This distinction rewards all the efforts made by the UMP of Oujda in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa”, says the President of the Mohammed Premier University (UMP) of Oujda, Yassine Zarhloule.
This merit highlights the laudable efforts of all components of the UMP of Oujda in the field of AI, he rejoiced, noting, in a statement to MAP, that it is a privilege for all Moroccan universities with a view to giving new impetus to scientific research.
To do this, a plan was developed to set up an infrastructure adapted to AI, by strengthening the Internet and server networks, in addition to training scientific skills, in line with this development, he explained.
Recently and to continue this momentum, the UMP of Oujda organized the first edition of the hackathon “Miathon’01”, a flagship event dedicated to innovating and creating sustainable solutions for tomorrow’s society.
In the process, three innovative projects were rewarded during this hackathon (June 16-18, 2023) initiated in partnership with the EuropIA Institute and other institutional partners. The Hackathon, organized under the theme “Artificial Intelligence for a better society”, aroused the enthusiasm of 260 Moroccan and foreign project leaders, 145 of whom were selected and divided into groups to pitch their projects.
In detail, each team was invited during the three days of the hackathon to create a prototype of a new solution in the field of AI, and to pitch their projects to a jury. At the same time, workshops were organized for students aged 10 to 15, on the use and programming of a drone, with the aim of introducing them to the field of artificial intelligence.
Note that a total of 84,882 students are enrolled in establishments under the Mohammed Premier University (UMP) of Oujda for the 2023-2024 academic year, including 24,073 new enrollees, an increase of 4.2 % compared to last year.
This year’s university offering was corroborated by the launch of new accredited courses, including 97 bachelor’s courses, seven courses of excellence, 26 masters, two specialized masters, nine university technology diplomas (DUT), an engineering diploma of state, training in pharmacy, in addition to nine licenses in education.
In order to promote scientific research and innovation, the University has concluded 13 conventions at the national level and seven conventions at the international level, in addition to the publication of 1,690 scientific articles in international journals.
