Artist Phuong Dungfull name Le Thi Phuong Dung, was born in 1962 in a family with no artistic tradition. She is the eldest of four siblings, her father passed away when she was 12 years old, her mother worked hard to take care of her five children. Fate with art Phuong Dung started in 1982 when she took the entrance exam to the Stage Arts School 2. At that time, students were given rice, meat and necessities every month. Phuong Dung thought that studying and having a “salary” would ease her mother’s financial burden, so she followed the profession from then on. After graduating, she was lucky to be accepted into the drama troupe by People’s Artist Kim Cuong. From then on, Phuong Dung met Meritorious Artist Thanh Tri and was introduced to villain roles in television dramas by him.
Shining with a heavy role in The Last Storm brought her name to the attention of directors. Because she fell in love with an artist in the troupe, she decided to quit her job to follow the call of love, despite the opposition of many people, including People’s Artist Kim Cuong. After that, the love affair did not work out, and the two broke up. Sharing in the program Artist’s Life, Phuong Dung confided that she no longer had the face to return to the old troupe, the place that led her into the profession. She decided to sell broken rice, rice rolls and tailor at home.
Thinking that she would never be able to return to the stage, one day, Mr. Chin – Head of the Bong Hong Drama Troupe accidentally visited Phuong Dung’s rice cake stall. Feeling sorry for her situation, he burst into tears. After that meeting, Mr. Chin brought Phuong Dung back to the stage and provided her with everything she needed to continue her career.
When returning to the arts, Phuong Dung accidentally got the role of Tao Thi in the film Pham Cong – Cuc Hoa. The original actress who played the role had been cast and practiced for a long time, but suddenly had an urgent matter and could not participate. Thanks to actor – director Cong Hau, she got the role in a flash. After that, she and he rode their bicycles to the film set. With her excellent role and fierce acting, the character of Tao Thi brought her great success after returning to the arts. However, the dislike from the character also brought her a lot of trouble after the film was finished.
Talking about villain roles, Phuong Dung shared that when she was studying at the University of Theater and Cinema, her teachers directed her to villain roles. She is a familiar face to Southern television and theater audiences through the fierce characters “tailored” thanks to her face that is very suitable for villain roles.
In her 40-year career, she is known as “the evil woman of Vietnamese cinema”, “the actress specializing in evil roles”.
Previously, Phuong Dung was considered the “queen of television” when she participated in 3-4 films at the same time. Currently, she still acts in 3-4 sitcoms, but at this age, she gives the opportunity to the younger generation. Phuong Dung and a group of artists Phi Phung, Thuy Muoi, Diem Huong, and Nam Cha created the YouTube channel Ngu Long Du Ky with the purpose of serving the community and artists, not for fame or profit. 62 years old, single after marriage crisis
As a beautiful and unique actress on screen, Phuong Dung confided: “Beauty and misfortune are real. I was once married, then broke up and tried to fix it, but now I live alone.” At the age of 62, the female artist does not wish for her own family, is satisfied with her current life, maintains a happy and optimistic spirit and finds joy in her work.
