Hanoch Levin – The Opera // New production at the Opera House
Hanoch Levin – The Opera, a new operatic production will be staged at the Opera House in Tel Aviv starting Monday (January 29). The production includes the sad and funny characters of the greatest Israeli playwrights and original music by five Israeli composers, who received sketches, songs and excerpts from plays written by Hanoch Levin. The five composers, representing different generations of musical writing – Yossi Ben Nun, David Zeba, Yonatan Canaan, Yonatan Kerat and Roni Rashef – created for each of the pieces a musical world full of humor, pain and emotion.
The skits in the production were chosen by Ido Riklin, the opera’s dramaturg, from plays and songs written during different periods of Levin’s writing, including “Rubber Merchants”, “Yacovi and Leidenthal”, “Bachelors and Singles”, “Murder”, “Sheetz”, “The Third They will be expelled from the Congo” and more. Alongside them were placed some of Levin’s well-known songs, such as “London” and “I live from day to day”, as well as some amusing and painful “children’s songs” composed by Yossi Ben Nun.

The creation of the Varda orphan sculpture // Film and conversation at Beit Gabriel
A film screening event and talk about the creation of the Varda Yatom sculpture will be held on Friday (February 2) at Beit Gabriel. The film, directed by Omer and Han Yifman about the artist, will be accompanied by a discussion in which Zohar Monsongo, curator and director of the Beit Hashomer Museum, and Behemet Harovani Zeevi, curator of the Beit Hashomer Museum gallery, will participate. The film will be screened following Varda Yatom’s exhibition that did not open at the Beit HaShomer museum in Kibbutz Kfar Giladi (which was closed at the beginning of the war) – “From a man you are and to a man you will return”.

Shows and activities in February // Vertigo Dance Company
During the month of February, performances and activities by the Vertigo dance troupe will be held at the Suzan Dellal Center in Tel Aviv, in Ma’alot, Pardes Hana and the Jerusalem Theater. Among the shows: “Place” – the work of Naa Wertheim, the choreographer and artistic director of the band in collaboration with Rene Wertheim Koren, in which she deals with the existential plane and the spiritual field and involves the inside with the outside; “Students dancing Vertigo” – an educational project in which students of dance majors and dance centers from around the country are exposed to the language of the troupe.
Shape On Us – a composition for 11 physically diverse dancers by Sharon Friedman; “Mana – a vessel of light” – a work that presents a mystical philosophical journey between contrasts, between spirit and matter, eternity and physicality. The language of movement explores the male line and the female circle through spiral structures and intensifying energy.

Pet Shop Boys – Dreamworld // Screenings at Tel Aviv Cinematheque
The two screenings for Pet Shop Boys – Dreamworld – the band’s greatest hits live in Copenhagen, will take place in the next two weeks (January 31, February 4) at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque. The performance film directed by David Barnard comes out on the occasion of the band’s 40th anniversary, and includes a live performance that took place in July 2023 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. The film will be shown in only two screenings, and they will take place simultaneously in many countries in the world – on the same dates. Before the first screening on January 31, there will be a conversation with Eyal Daskel, music editor and DJ.
