Watch this video to learn about the 5 important aspects of the report submitted by the Arumugasamy Commission on Jayalalithaa’s death.

Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted to Chennai Apollo Hospital on 22 September 2016 due to ill health. Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5, 2016 after undergoing treatment for 75 days in the hospital. At that time, many people expressed doubts about Jayalalithaa’s death.

As a result, the Tamil Nadu government set up a commission to investigate Jayalalithaa’s death in 2017 under the leadership of retired judge Arumugasamy in order to clear doubts about Jayalalithaa’s death.

In between, the Arumugasamy Commission inquiry was suspended for 2 years, but the Arumugasamy Commission resumed the inquiry from March 7, 2022. Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Sasikala’s relatives, private hospital doctors who treated Jayalalithaa and 159 people were interrogated.

After the investigation of all sides, the 608-page report was released by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Submitted to Stalin on 27th August.

In this case, the inquiry report regarding Jayalalithaa’s death was filed in the Legislative Assembly.

The report states that after Jayalalitha fainted, all events that took place remain a mystery.

  1. Sameen Sharma, an American doctor who examined Jayalalithaa, recommended her to undergo a heart surgery. But, it was not done till the end. It is not stated why.
  2. Even though the AIIMS medical team visited 3 Murai Apollo Hospitals, Jayalalitha was never once treated properly.
  3. Sasikala stopped Jayalalithaa from getting angio treatment. The report suggests that Sasikala may have withheld the angio treatment for self-interest due to the strained relationship between Sasikala and Jayalalithaa.
  4. While the hospital says Jayalalitha died at 11.30 pm on 05.12.2016, witnesses say she died on the previous day, 4.12.2015, between 3-3.50 pm. Therefore, the commission cannot come to any conclusion other than to hold Sasikala guilty, the report said.
  5. The report says there is no evidence that Jayalalithaa’s legs were amputated, or that she was given slow poison.

Therefore, according to the commission’s investigation report, the commission decided that Sasikala, Dr. Sivakumar, the then health secretary Radhakrishnan, and the then health minister Vijayabaskar were guilty and recommended for investigation.
