New Delhi : Congress has reacted to this a day after Arun Goyal resigned from the post of Election Commissioner. The Congress asked whether he had taken this step because of any differences with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) or the Narendra Modi government. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh asked whether Arun Goyal had resigned due to personal reasons. As he has mentioned it in his resignation letter or like former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, he has resigned to contest Lok Sabha elections on BJP ticket.

What did Jairam Ramesh say on Arun Goyal?

Jairam Ramesh said that yesterday Arun Goyal resigned, this is raising questions in my mind. The questions he asked are as follows-
1. Did Arun Goyal really resign due to differences with the Chief Election Commissioner or the Modi government?
2. Or did he resign due to personal reasons?
3. Or he, like the Calcutta High Court judge a few days ago, has resigned to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket.

Congress raised the issue of VVPAT

The Congress leader said the Election Commission has been refusing to meet the parties in the opposition alliance INDIA on the issue of ‘Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail’ (VVPAT) for eight months. VVPAT is very important to prevent manipulation. He said that every passing day in PM Modi’s India deals an additional blow to democracy and democratic institutions. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, however, when asked about Arun Goyal’s resignation, said that it will have to wait to see what he does in the coming days.

Was ahead in the race for CEC, had 3 years of tenure left, 5 big things related to the resigned Election Commissioner Arun Goyal

What did Kharge say on Arun Goyal’s resignation?

When asked about Arun Goyal’s resignation, Kharge said, “I was thinking that the High Court judge resigned and joined the BJP the next day.” Started abusing Trinamool Congress (TMC). This shows that BJP has appointed people with such mentality. Now the Election Commissioner has resigned, so let’s wait and see what he does.

Resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goyal just before Lok Sabha elections, President accepted

Know who is Arun Goyal

Election Commissioner Arun Goyal had resigned from the post on Saturday, days before the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha election schedule. Goyal’s tenure was till December 5, 2027 and he would probably have taken over as CEC in February next year after the retirement of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar. According to a Law Ministry notification, Goyal’s resignation was accepted by President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday. Retired bureaucrat Goyal was a 1985-batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre. He joined the Election Commission in November 2022. After the retirement of Anoop Chandra Pandey in February and the resignation of Goyal, the three-member Election Commission now has only Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.
