On September 19, the situation in Karabakh became tense again. Official Baku announced that it has started “local anti-terrorist measures” and demanded the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the region. Yerevan, on the other hand, declared that there are no military forces in Karabakh, and that “large-scale aggression” is currently taking place in the region.
Before the operation, Azerbaijan announced that six of its citizens, including four policemen and two employees of the State Agency of Motorways, were killed by landmines.
According to some experts, official Moscow gave carte blanche to those “anti-terrorist measures”. They emphasize that diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia have become strained recently.
