As a successor to Tornados – Bundeswehr should get US stealth jets – politics

by time news

The Federal Government wants to equip the Air Force with the US F-35 stealth jet!

Up to 35 fighter aircraft from Lockheed Martin are to replace the Tornado fleet introduced more than 40 years ago. Also on the federal government’s shopping list: 15 Eurofighters, which are produced by Airbus, among others.

The F-35 is considered the most modern fighter aircraft in the world. Due to a special shape and outer coating, the machine is difficult for enemy radar to detect. In addition, the F-35 can also carry nuclear weapons, so it ensures that Germany can drop American nuclear bombs in case of defense.

Officially never confirmed, but a kind of open secret: 20 thermonuclear B61 gravitational bombs of the US armed forces are said to be stored in Büchel in the Eifel, which so far can be latched under German tornadoes.

Lambrecht wants to improve the soldiers’ equipment

After the invasion of Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin (69), Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD) spoke of a “turning point”, promising: The Bundeswehr should get 100 billion euros and finally two percent of the federal budget.

Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (56, SPD) wants above all to improve the equipment of the soldiers. Because they lack the simplest things: protective vests, helmets, warm underwear, night vision devices.

Lambrecht on BILD: “Our soldiers do their duty with impressive commitment and the highest level of professionalism – they ensure our freedom. That is why they deserve the best possible equipment.”

She instructed Inspector General Eberhard Zorn (62) to “priority improve the troops’ personal equipment as quickly as possible. That’s right at the top of my agenda now.”

Defense expert Wolfgang Hellmich (63, SPD) wants to quickly procure heavy transport helicopters and do everything possible “so that the troops on the ground can defend themselves against attacks from the air”.
