Starting this Wednesday (July 6, 2022), the new car models that will be marketed in Europe will be equipped with a smart speed assistant system (in English – INTELLIGENT SPEED ASSISTANCE or ISA) and according to the Ministry of Transportation, installation in the system will be mandatory after local adjustments, Calcalist reported.
A little about the system:
The ISA system “reads” through sensors the speed displayed on signs (or is alternately updated via GPS what the speed limit is in a particular area) and then alerts the driver by beeping or vibrating the steering wheel when it exceeds the speed limit. At the same time, the system itself adjusts the vehicle speed to the speed that appears on the sign.
According to the EU, the ISA system “informs, warns and prevents the driver from exceeding the statutory speed limit in a particular area, where the speed limit is automatically set according to the speed limits shown on road signs. Integrated GPS with a digital speed limit allows for constant updating of the speed limit. “
The system will be activated automatically at every start of the journey by the vehicle, but if the driver does not wish to do so, he can stop the system operation by entering the vehicle menu or pressing a button. The EU assumption is that most drivers will not be in a hurry to perform the neutralization action on each new trip.
The Ministry of Transportation told Calcalist in response that “the State of Israel adopts the European standard and will also adopt the standard relevant to the ISA system while examining the meanings and adjustments of the system to proper functioning on the country’s roads and identifying local signs accordingly.”
