In the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, the city of Shusha, as part of the Vagif Poetry Days, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, a presentation of the documentary film “Repression of the Word” was held, the press service of the department told Day.Az.
The event took place in the Shusha Hotel-Congress Center. The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan. The film’s director is Rafig Gashimov, the scriptwriter is Salim Babullaoglu, the cameraman is Rufat Suleymanov.
The film tells the story of 31 Azerbaijani writers, poets and other literary figures who became victims of repression, and tells their tragic story. At the same time, the film examines the policy of Stalin’s repressions. The film adaptation presents the views of the people’s writer Anar, Javidist historian Hamid Jafarov, academician Rafael Huseynov, head of the Museum of Victims of Political Repression Mirabbas Mamedov, philologists Firudin Gurbansoy and Badirkhan Akhmedov on the essence of Stalin’s repressions and communist policy. The film was met with great interest by viewers.
It should be noted that on January 14, 1982, with the participation of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the mausoleum and the House of Poetry of the great poet and statesman Molla Panah Vagif (1717-1797) were opened in Shusha. It was at this event that Heydar Aliyev supported the initiative of writers in this direction and gave the order to hold Vagif Poetry Days. The poetry festival was first organized in July 1982. Vagif Poetry Days, which have a 42-year history, are being held in Shusha liberated from occupation for the fourth time.
