ASEAN Foreign Ministers, including Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, have met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss bilateral cooperation.

As well as Dr. Vivian, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of green economy and e-economics.

ASEAN-India Special Meeting

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers are attending a two-day meeting in New Delhi to mark ASEAN-India relations. These meetings preceded this.

The meeting is co-chaired by Dr. Vivian and Mr. Jaisankar.

Speaking at a two-day meeting that began on Thursday (June 16) morning, Mr Jaisankar said India fully supports a strong, united and prosperous ASEAN.

Mr Jaisankar described ASEAN’s uniqueness in the region and laid the foundation for the emerging economic and political framework in the Indo – Pacific region.

Concerns about the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war

Dr. Vivian and Mr. Jaisankar spoke about the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war on the world.

The Hindustan Times quoted Dr Vivian as saying that Moscow’s actions had turned international order and international law upside down.

He further added that the diplomatic feud between China and the United States would directly affect everyone in Asia.

The Hindustan Times quoted Dr Vivian as saying that if these events were not stopped, the basic peace and stability of perennial growth, prosperity and development would be jeopardized.

Mr Jaisankar said the spread of Kovit-19 was not over yet and many more features needed to be restored.

Mr Jaishankar noted that the challenges were exacerbated by the situation in Ukraine.

Singapore – Meeting of Indian Foreign Ministers

Dr. Vivian, who had earlier posted on his Facebook page about his meeting with Mr. Jaisankar, described the two countries as naturally partners.

He also uploaded a video about his visit to India.
