Brisbane: Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey holds the record for most catches in a debut. Carey’s record achievement in the first Test of the Ashes series against England. The 30-year-old made eight catches in his debut Test. India’s Rishabh Pant’s record of seven catches in his debut Test has been surpassed today.

Carey made his name in the record books when he was caught by Chris Vokes off Cameron Green. Along with Rishabh, Chris Reid, Brian Taber, Chamara Dhunusinghe, Peter Neville and Alan Knott have also taken seven catches in their debut Tests. Carrey replaced former captain and wicketkeeper Tim Payne in the Australia squad for the last – minute Ashes series.

South Africa’s Quinton de Kock is the highest wicket-taker in a Test. De Kok took nine catches in the first Test as wicketkeeper. But this would not be considered De Kok’s debut Test as he had previously played only one Test as a batsman.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon reached another milestone in Test cricket with Australia’s stunning victory in the first Test. With four wickets in hand, Lyon surpassed 400 wickets in Tests. Lyon’s achievement is to get rid of David Malone. Lyon is the 17th bowler to achieve this feat in Tests.

Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath are the other Australian bowlers to have taken 400 wickets before Lyon. Lyon took 400 wickets in the 100th Test. The Lyon 400 reached the milestone by knocking out Oli Pope, Oli Robinson and Mark Wood. For Australia, Shane Warne took 708 wickets and Glenn McGrath 563 wickets. Dennis Lilly was fourth with 355 wickets.
