Asi and Guri: 20 years of “Revolution broadcasts” – mentioned in the best sketches

by time news

If you look at the ratio between the minority of episodes in which it was broadcast and the amount of expressions, characters and sketches that entered the Israeli humor pantheon, then “Revolution Broadcasts” is the largest humor program broadcast in Israel. It aired this week 20 years ago and lasted only eight episodes (!), But even after many many decades still fondly and longingly remember that wild summer show of Asi Cohen and Guri Alfi, shortly before their professional paths parted. On the occasion of the event, we will remember the best sketches.

the news

“Revolution Broadcasts” aired about a year before “Great Country,” and preceded it based on the news format as the basis for the comic work. Asi and Guri characterized their newscast, presenting the narrator characters “Snir and Snir”, as a TV show for everything on the broadcast schedule – one that has seasons and goes on vacation, one that combines award-winning shows and conversations with viewers at home.

There were also small and amusing jokes such as a report of a robbery in Tel Aviv taken by a wedding photographer who happened to be at the venue and projected against the background of effects and happy music, or a special emergency edition on the occasion that “nothing happened today.” There was also the prediction, presented by Asi Cohen’s real grandmother, which always amounted to “tomorrow will be hot and cool”, and was the kiss between the pair of presenters, as a parody of the New Year’s kiss of Miki Haimovich and Yaakov Ayalon.

Friends sing ponytail

The most memorable character from “Revolution Broadcasts” is the singer Coco, who is based on a real singer nicknamed “Coco from Eilat”, and his silent keyboardist, Steve. The two conquered the country with the hits “Inspector I unload goods”, “Where are you? Here you are” and “Moses you are not a hedgehog”, which were also successful outside the program and were frequently played on the radio. In the final episode of the program, a special sketch was broadcast in which the best Israeli artists salute Koko and color his songs. Danny Sanderson, Ivri Lider and Eran Tzur were excellent, but the real gossip was David D’Or’s opera version of “Who Gave You a Girl’s License?”.

Hiller bets

The early 2000s was a television period characterized by a proliferation of lifestyle, mysticism and astrology programs, one of which was presented by Judy Shalom Nir Mozes. The answer of “Revolution Broadcasts” was the parody “Stars and Zodiac”, in which Rotem Abohav, a friend of Asi and Guri from the days of “Domino Gross”, played Judy. Asi Cohen played the charlatan healer with the Anglo-Saxon accent, and the remembered catch-and-catcher “Stop, you’re gay.”

Peace evening with Prosper

There are things that do not change, and already in 2002 Guy Pines was the king of the entertainment world with his successful program, in which he interviewed many Hollywood stars and asked them to say “Hi Guy” and other basic sentences in Hebrew. In “Revolution Broadcasts” Pines became a prosper, a lazy Israeli presenter who does not know English, asks irrelevant questions and puts rude sentences in Hebrew according to his interviewees.

Family in the ass

Another favorite sketch was the sitcom about a generic Israeli family whose members like to say the word “ass”, at any time and in any context. The boy Liron Zeid, now a News 12 reporter, appeared in the role of the boy.

Loves and lies

The early 2000s were the heyday of the first Hebrew telenovelas, such as “Touching Happiness” and “Love Life,” which were hysterical hits. “Revolution Broadcasts” responded with “Loves and Lies”, a telenovela with a far-fetched plot (though not sure more than the real series) and exaggerated acting (though not sure more than the real series).

Between the beams

And finally, about a month after the painful and unfortunate death of Modi Bar-On, we are reminded of a sketch dedicated to him in “Broadcasting Revolution” (and according to the duo was done with great love and appreciation). In the sketch, filmed in the old studio of the sports channel, Alfi already-on interviews the chairman of the Football Association, who is not mentioned by name but is based on Gavri Levy, played by Cohen. This sketch ranges from nonsense jokes (“What do Eli Ohana have in common?” “Total – 17”) and a true and poignant satire on the shortcomings of Israeli football, which remains relevant to this day.
