New reports have surfaced regarding the tournament as the debate rages on whether the Indian (India) cricket team will go to Pakistan (Asia Cup 2023). After the initial dispute, the BCCI and the PCB have reportedly agreed to hold the tournament in Pakistan but India’s matches in another country.

Although the overseas venue has not been confirmed, the UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka and England are being considered. One of these foreign countries will be ready to host five matches, including at least two India-Pakistan matches. India and Pakistan have been grouped together in the six-nation Asia Cup to be held in the first half of September this year in the 50-over format. Another team that makes it through qualification will also be in the group.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the other group. 13 matches will be held in 13 days including the final. As per the format of the 2022 Asia Cup, the top two teams from each group advanced to the Super 4 and then the top two teams competed in the finals. India and Pakistan are left with the possibility of playing three times if they reach the final.

Although India is interested in hosting Pakistan matches at Asian venues, the weather will play a role in determining the second venue outside Pakistan. Temperatures in the UAE are usually above the 40 degree centigrade mark in early September. Therefore, the possibility of playing in England is being examined.

All members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held in Dubai last weekend as part of the ICC’s quarterly board meetings have agreed in principle to the new option to host the Asia Cup portion outside Pakistan. After the ACC meeting in Bahrain in mid-March failed to reach a decision, members gathered in Dubai for two rounds of informal talks.

Earlier it was announced that India will not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. With this, the Pakistan Board also stated that Pakistan will not come to India for the World Cup. If the tournament is held in two countries in a new way, Pakistan may come to play in India. The Asia Cup tournament will be crucial for all the teams as it is the year of the ODI World Cup.
