Dubai: This year’s Asia Cup cricket tournament series has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates.

The Asia Cup cricket tournament will be held in the T20 format this year. It was announced that it will be held in Sri Lanka from August 27 to September 11. However, due to the political turmoil in Sri Lanka, it was said that the series may be held elsewhere. Now the official notification regarding the venue of the series has been released.

Accordingly, the Asian Cricket Council has announced that the Asia Cup series will be held in the United Arab Emirates. After extensive deliberations at the Asian Cricket Council meeting held yesterday, it has been unanimously decided to shift the series to the United Arab Emirates in view of the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka.

The Australian cricket team toured and played amid political turmoil in Sri Lanka. Similarly, the Pakistan team has also toured Sri Lanka. However, in the last fortnight, the situation has turned upside down due to the series of protests across the country demanding the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was the country’s president.

Because of this, it has been decided to host the Asia Cup series in the United Arab Emirates. However, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is said to be conducting the series in association with the Emirates Cricket Board. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has agreed to this decision of the Asian Cricket Council.
