Kabul: The 17-member Afghanistan squad for the Asia Cup Cricket, which starts in the UAE from August 27, has been announced. Senior player Muhammad Nabi is the hero. Najeebullah Sardran is the vice-captain of the team.
The main change is the return of Samiullah Shenwari to the squad for the series against Ireland, replacing Sharafuddin Ashraf. Shenwari, who has not played international cricket since 2020, was in scintillating form in the recent Shpagiza Cricket League.

Nijat Masood, Quais Ahmed and Sharafuddin Ashraf are the three reserve players.
The Asia Cup tournament will begin on 27th with the match between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan will also face Bangladesh on the 30th. A tough fight is expected as only two teams from the group will qualify for the Super Four. Currently playing in the five-match T20I series against Ireland, Afghanistan are trailing 0-2 after losing the first two games.
