At the end of March 2024, the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region increased by 12 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 24 million tons. Bloomberg reports this with reference to statistical data from Kpler analysts, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
The leaders in import growth rates were China, India and Thailand. The first increased purchases by 22 percent compared to March 2023, and the second by almost 30 percent. In addition, Japan also increased imports last month, purchasing LNG by 8 percent more on an annual basis, experts said.
At the same time, supplies of this type of fuel to Europe showed the opposite dynamics. At the end of March, LNG import volumes decreased by 20 percent year-on-year and fell to their lowest level since September 2023. According to analysts, the reduction in purchases was also facilitated by record high reserves of natural gas in local underground storage facilities (UGS).
