Bulb region – The Asian tiger mosquito was found in the GGD Hollands Midden region in October, an exotic mosquito that does not occur naturally in the Netherlands. An observant Katwijker discovered the animal.

The mosquito, if infested itself, can transmit dengue (dengue fever) or chikungunya. In the Netherlands, these diseases only occur in people who were in the tropics and were stung there by a mosquito. In the Netherlands it has not yet happened that someone has become ill from a bite from a tiger mosquito from the Netherlands.

Anyone who thinks they have seen a tiger mosquito is asked to catch or kill the mosquito. Take pictures of the animal, keep the mosquito and report it to the NVWA: www.nvwa.nl/onderwerpen/muggen-knutten-en-teken/asiatische-tijgermug.
