The Dallas of the North American MLS league announced this Thursday the hiring of midfielder Asier Illarramendi, former captain of Real Sociedad.

Asier Illarramendi, who said goodbye to Real Sociedad on June 4, will play with the Texan team for the remainder of the 2023 season. Dallas said in a statement that it also has an option for the 33-year-old Gipuzkoan midfielder to play in the team in 2024.

Dallas has not disclosed the financial details of the deal.

The US team’s technical director, Andre Zanotta, stated that “Asier is a high-quality midfielder who comes with more than a decade of experience in LaLiga, including three years at the extraordinary Real Madrid.”

“His leadership will be an asset to the entire organization,” added Andre Zanotta.

In Dallas, “Illarra”, as the player is known, will be led by the Spanish Nico Estévez, the team’s coach since 2022.

The career of Asier Illarramendi

Asier Illarramendi began in 2008 at Real Sociedad B and in 2010 he joined the club’s first team. Between 2013 and 2015 he played for Real Madrid, with whom he played a total of 59 games. After his time in the team from the Spanish capital, Illarramendi returned to Real Sociedad until his farewell last June.

The midfielder has also played three games with the Spanish senior team.
