Asif Akbar is the popular musician of the country. In addition to music, he is also associated with politics. In two eras of music career, he has given many popular songs. His songs were broadcast regularly on Bangladesh Television and Radio. But in the last century and a half, the picture was different.
After 16 long years, Asif got an offer to sing through these two government channels. Originally, the television and radio authorities offered Asif to sing after the mass protest of the students on August 5. But this artist returned it with humility.
Asif Akbar posted a status on his Facebook on Wednesday (September 4). Asif Akbar said, ‘A worker of Bangladesh Betar invited me to attend one of their events. The girl’s modest offer had to be turned down. There are some more well-wishers on the radio, who wanted to play my songs for the past sixteen years, but could not — now they can.’
Bangladesh Television also contacted Asif. Referring to this information, Asif Akbar said, ‘I also received a call from Bangladesh Television. The program producer said, want to start fresh with you. I politely refused him too. I have seen in the recent past that my song is playing on BTV, just changed the name.’
Asif no longer wants to sing on private TV channels. He said, “In a twenty-four-year career (including One-Eleven), eighteen years have passed away from life. I am past youth and now middle-aged. I used to sing on private TV channels from time to time, now I don’t sing anymore, I will never sing there again. I don’t even bother with these anymore. I have become accustomed to long-term inexperience. That full head of hair is gone, some have turned white, and the vision of the eyes has become a little blurry. Still thanks to the state for letting me stay in the country.’
Someone new will get a chance to sing in Asif’s place. And this is his joy. Referring to this, Asif Akbar said, ‘Singing is my profession, I will sing on stage for a few years. Millions of people love me, want to sing in front of them, surely they are also deprived! Someone else will get a chance to replace me in Betar/BTV, I will find happiness there.’
