ASMI received fewer new orders in the first quarter because large chip companies have become more cautious with their investments and was cut more than 7 percent. Industry peer Besi also suffered from lower demand for computer chips last quarter and saw turnover fall slightly. For the current quarter, however, Besi is counting on solid sales growth again and the share gained 8 percent.

In the past period, KPN was mainly able to attract new mobile customers. In terms of broadband internet, however, the company is having a hard time, partly due to strong competition in the fiber optic sector. KPN also confirmed that it had made a bid for the broadcasting rights of the Eredivisie together with other telecom providers such as VodafoneZiggo, T-Mobile and Delta. The stock closed up 0.7 percent.

IMCD was also a notable loser at the Damrak, with a share price loss of 4 percent. The chemicals distributor posted more turnover and profit last quarter, but investors had hoped for more. Other companies that came up with figures included soil researcher Fugro (plus 3.2 percent) and tank storage company Vopak (plus 1.9 percent).

Acquisition news Majorel, slight decrease Danone

On the local Amsterdam market, Majorel increased in value by more than 38 percent. France’s Teleperformance wants to acquire the Luxembourg-based call center company for 3 billion euros. In Paris, Danone dropped slightly. The French dairy and food producer saw quarterly sales increase on the back of price increases and raised its full-year sales forecast, but investors weren’t thrilled.
