US President Joe Biden said he spoke with Donald Trump after the assassination attempt on him.
“I spoke to Trump, we had a good and brief conversation. We offer our condolences to the family of the citizen who died protecting his family,” Biden said.
The President stressed that the assassination attempt goes against everything the United States stands for as a nation.
President Biden said he had ordered a thorough review of Trump’s security measures and to beef them up if necessary. “I have directed the Secret Service to give Trump the answers he needs and to review the security measures at the Republican convention. I have ordered an independent investigation,” he concluded.
Following the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, Israel’s cabinet held a two-hour debate on the issue of incitement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs showed a selection of videos accusing government critics of incitement against the prime minister.
After the video was shown, ministers accused the justice system, law enforcement and the attorney general of failing to act against hate speech from members of the public against Netanyahu and his family. They warned that incitement against the prime minister could be even more dangerous than in the United States.
Netanyahu himself, in his remarks at the meeting, protested the inaction of senior officials in law enforcement and the judiciary, saying that this was leading to the legitimization of an attack on democracy and the normalization of political assassination.
An assassination attempt on Trump occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania, leaving the former president lightly wounded. One rally participant was killed and two were seriously injured. The shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was a registered Republican who also donated to a Democratic political action committee.
