Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Date Leaks for Nintendo Switch 2
A potential release date for Assassin’s creed Shadows on Nintendo’s forthcoming Switch 2 console has surfaced, suggesting a launch on December 5. The leak, reported by VGC via Dealabs, indicates the action-adventure title will be available both digitally and physically.
The physical edition will reportedly utilize Nintendo’s new “Game Key Card” format, which has drawn scrutiny as it requires a download despite being a physical purchase. This approach, where the game data isn’t directly on the cartridge, was previously employed with Star Wars Outlaws on the Switch 2. Ubisoft has previously justified this method, stating that digital storage solutions offer faster streaming speeds for expansive in-game worlds compared to traditional cartridges.
The leaked release also carries a price tag of 50 euros, roughly equivalent to $50 USD. This represents a notable price reduction compared to the game’s cost on other platforms. The box art showcased aligns with the standard edition of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Notably, the Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws was released as a Gold Edition – including the Season Pass – at a retail price of $60.
Evidence supporting a Switch 2 port has been accumulating for months. Earlier this year, the PEGI ratings website listed Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Nintendo’s next-generation system. Furthermore, Ubisoft CEO Yves guillemot previously hinted at “new versions” of the game arriving on additional platforms. The initial reports surfaced on Dealabs, a French deals website known for accurately leaking information about upcoming game releases. Guillemot’s comments in May indicated Ubisoft is actively exploring opportunities to bring its titles to a wider audience, including potentially less powerful hardware.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, released in March for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, received generally favorable reviews, with GameSpot praising its engaging story and refined gameplay. The game transports players to feudal japan, allowing them to play as both a samurai and a shinobi. The Switch 2 version is expected to maintain the core gameplay experience, though potential graphical compromises may be necessary to accommodate the handheld console’s hardware. The game’s success on other platforms has fueled anticipation for its arrival on Nintendo’s next-generation system.
