A cut fiber optic cable in France has slowed down international data traffic. This is not the first attack on an Internet cable.
Pictures of damaged cables added “Free” published on his Twitter account. The network operator writes: “In Marseille there were significant interruptions in the supply of fixed and mobile communications. The attacks were carried out simultaneously in different places in the region.”
Because international traffic also flows through Marseille, data traffic “to Australia or Southeast Asia” was affected by the attacks, reports “heise.de”.
First attacks already in spring
It was not the first time that there had been an attack on fiber optic cables in France. Network operator “Free” reported similar incidents near Paris in April 2022. Four fiber optic lines had been severed there.
