Another restless afternoon at the National Assembly. The very media Nupes / LFI deputy from the 18th arrondissement of Paris, Aymeric Caron, even cries out for “shame in the National Assembly”, this Tuesday. The reason for his anger? The refusal by the President of the National Assembly of a minute of silence in tribute to the migrants who have died in recent weeks in the Mediterranean, and particularly those who died off the coast of Greece a few days ago.

“President Yaël Braun-Pivet opposes the minute of silence that we proposed in memory of the 600 exiles drowned in the Mediterranean last week in one of the worst maritime disasters in recent history. The message is clear: migrants, die far from our eyes ” attacks the deputy LFI, ordinarily defender of animal rights in a tweet, at the end of the afternoon.

“In their memory, I propose to you, dear colleagues, ladies and gentlemen ministers, that we observe a minute of silence”, demanded the deputy from Paris at the podium. In the process, the deputies of the Nupes rise as one block, but also those present on the benches of the Renaissance and up to certain ministers present, including the head of government Élisabeth Borne. But the initiative which obviously took aback, the president of the session, who is none other than Yaël Braun-Pivet herself, was stopped by the latter.

“I do not see why the improvisation of this moment prevented the union”

“My dear colleagues, I do indeed find that this idea is great, but the Conference of Presidents is there for that, so that we can collectively decide on the moments for which in this hemicycle we honor the missing” then challenges the holder of the Perchoir. “We don’t do a minute of silence that way,” adds Yaël Braun-Pivet. “You should know that and I’m sorry, I’m sorry you made me say that. It’s sad because these are times that should unite us and not disunite us and practices such as this dishonor us, ”adds Braun-Pivet to the attention of the rebellious deputy.

“I do not see why the improvisation of this moment prevented the union”, retorted Aymeric Caron. He then continues at the invitation of the president his question and then denounces “the embarrassed and guilty silence” around this drama. The deputy received the support of his camp after the decision of Yaël Braun-Pivet. “When Aymeric Caron asks for a minute of silence for the castaways in the Mediterranean, only the left rises. The other groups claim that it was not up to him to ask. When the form makes it possible to touch the bottom… ” thus tackles the first secretary of the PS of Olivier Faure in a tweet this Tuesday at close to noon.
