Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won four of the five state assembly elections in India.

In particular, in Uttar Pradesh, the largest state with 403 seats, the BJP won 255 seats and retained power.

This is the first time in 37 years that a party has been re-elected from power in the state.
