Conakry, October 12, 2023 – A delegation from Winning Consortium Simandou (WCS) visited four cities in Guinea from September 21 to October 5, 2023, with the subcontracting and local content caravan, to promote dialogue with businesses and local communities.

Local content is at the heart of WCS’s strategy to ensure that the Simandou project generates sustainable benefits for the socio-economic development of Guinea. As part of its ambitious local content policy, in partnership with the BSTP, WCS traveled the country over more than 974km on an itinerary made up of four stages: Faranah, Forécariah, Mamou and Kindia.

Different actors from the private and public sectors participated in this caravan such as the representative of the Ministry of Mines and Geology, public administration, mining partners, such as Rio Tinto Simfer, the Chamber of Mines, the Chamber of Commerce , Industry and Crafts of Guinea, and members of civil society. This synergy aims to promote dialogue between the different stakeholders directly on the ground, in order to give rise to new fruitful collaborations or to strengthen existing partnerships. This event was also an opportunity to maintain a lasting relationship with local communities to discuss their concerns and establish a lasting relationship of trust.

At each stage, Winning Consortium Simandou met local companies and its future suppliers during awareness and information workshops. During these discussions, the WCS delegation presented the procurement procedures, pre-registration with the BSTP, the procedures for responding to calls for tender, as well as the opportunities offered to local companies by the Consortium, for construction works. construction and maintenance on mining sites in particular.

During this edition, the caravan brought together a total of 884 participants, including 31% women. Participating companies were able to complete the BSTP registration form, testifying to the extent of the usefulness and impact of the caravan. WCS’s participation in this new edition of the caravan demonstrates its desire to maintain mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses over the long term, for the supply of goods and services.

The Simandou project will further boost the local economy, thus promoting the growth of industries and new businesses, and accelerating the development and diversification of the Guinean economy.
