New Delhi,

Two days after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, India launched Operation Ganga to rescue Indians trapped there. Through this 18 thousand Indians were brought home. About 600 Indians were rescued last Tuesday from the city of Sumi alone.

In this context, the Union Foreign Minister S. Jaisankar said in a Twitter post yesterday: –

Operation Ganga, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was successfully completed with leadership and responsibility. Recovering Indian students from Sumi, a northeastern city in Ukraine in particular, was a challenge.

Overall we thank everyone who helped with Operation Ganga.

Our thanks mainly to Ukraine, Russia and the Red Cross. Ukraine’s neighbors Romania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Moldova also provided extraordinary assistance. We thank them too.

We are indebted to the NGOs, volunteers, organizations, our airline and the Indian Air Force who worked tirelessly in the rescue operation.

I commend my fellow Ministers Jyotiraditya Cynthia, Kiran Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri and VK Singh for their co-operation in this endeavor and our Embassy and Foreign Ministry officials in Ukraine for their dedicated work during the difficult war environment. ‘

Thus he has said.
