jpnn.com – The Democratic Party Fraction (FPD) DPR RI supports the steps taken by the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), to appreciate President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to increase the VAT tax rate from 11 to 12 percent.
Secretary of the DPR RI Democratic Party Fraction, Marwan Cik Asan, said that President Prabowo’s move to only increase VAT by 1 percent and specifically for luxury goods was a pro-people tax policy.
According to Marwan, the steps taken by the Prabowo government in implementing 12 percent VAT are correct.
“We support tax policies that must always prioritize the interests of the people as a whole, protect people’s purchasing power, and encourage economic equality,” said Marwan in his statement on Wednesday (1/1/2025).
His party encourages the government to ensure pro-people VAT, where the implementation of 12 percent VAT as mandated by Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations (UU HPP) only applies to the upper classes of society.
Marwan appreciated the government’s steps in implementing the HPP Law without targeting the basic and basic needs of the community.
“It is appropriate because it is carried out selectively, only targeting the upper classes, not basic food, health, education and other basic needs of society,” said Marwan.
